My computer has lost five minutes and no more ever since we got it. Dell said that since it doesn't keep loosing time not to worry about it. I reset the clock and it will loose 5 minutes over the next two or three days and not loose any more unless I reset the clock again. I can't even begin to figure it out. Any help??

Maybe the motherboard needs a new battery? Otherwise, I have no idea.

A new battery? - even if it never looses more than 5 minutes - I've let it go as long as six months before resetting the clock.

Well, it might only matter if you have pc maintenance scheduled. I don't use that on mine, but some people do. I just do the maintenance when I think about it once in a while, just like defragging, etc.

I don't know how much those batteries cost though as I've never had to replace mine. You just have to make sure you get the right one---that means you will most likely have to take the old one out first to get a match unless you might have paperwork on the motherboard. It's a good idea to keep all the pc paperwork, but I got mine as a deal, so I get get any of the papers and I have to do it all the hard way now. But hey, I don't forget it this way. Wink

I think the email times will be off too and if you look at the posting times on here, they'll probably be off. It might only matter if it matters to you? I'll have to ask the hubby--he's the pc man around here.

My posting times are 5 minutes ahead of what my clock says it is. [Actually 1 hour and 55 minutes behind.]

My dyslexia is showing - I've changed this three times now -and I'm still not sure I have it right. If the posted time says 1:19PM - my clock says it's 3:14PM.

Cool signature Donna!! I like.

AmPugs, to change the time for your postings, you can go into "my space" and clik on preferences and change that. It won't change the minutes, only the hours, but that way you'll have the right hour on here.

Hubby says the same thing that Donna said--if you have a virus check or anything else scheduled, then you might want to change the battery. Otherwise, you don't have to unless it really bugs you.

OK. I'll contact Dell - we bought it direct from them.

If you don't get the info from dell (and that can happen), you can look on the battery on your motherboard and get the number off the battery. They are usually good for about 5 years.

We've had this about three years - but it has done it since we got it.

It doesn't seem to cause any problems other than driving me batty - why only five minutes? Why always five minutes?

Five minutes a week, or a month, or even an hour, I could at least understand. But it never looses more than five minutes!!!!!

AmPugs,
Do you have an automatic update for your clock or automaticaly ajdust time for daylight saving changes? That could be where the problem is, possibly---I'm only guessing here, but you can change the hour and the minutes there and put the check mark in the box and see if it does anything. That's the only thing else that I can come up with. It's puzzling.
(just thinking the automatic update might fix it the next time you reboot?)

Bump - it was Marie92000h and Key trying to answer. It's starting to bother me again so I'll probably reset it soon.
