Is gossiping one of the worst sins? Is gossiping just bad as murder, rape, stealing, ect...??? I just read that somewhere that God thinks gossip is as bad as murder and such, is this correct?

It is not a good reference, I read it in a book called "three" I do not even know if the author is christian. One of his characters said it in the book, so therefore I was wondering if it was true.....
I do not see what is so wrong with that question Rose, I really do not, please care to explain.

Susie, are you talking about idle gossip or are you talking about bearing false witness ?
I can tell you what I was taught, Deuteronomy 5:20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbor. I was taught that there are different forms of lying, false witness, perjury, rash judgment, calumny rumors or false charges meant to hurt another persons reputation, and flattery that would influence or encourage other people to bad behavior.
I consider this to be the eight commandment, other religions number the commandments differently. And may interperate the commandments differently, I can only state what I believe.
Matthew 12:36-37 But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
As for if it is just as bad as murder, well certainly by bearing false witness you could cause the death of another person. I would think each person would have to make that decision for themselves.
Thanks for posting this it has given me something to reflect upon.

I really dont know what kind of gossip I was wondering, I guess just saying false accusations about other people to other people. I was thinking simple.

Asking this question was not wrong, where I got the source has nothing to do with anything, I asked the question because I wanted to know because I am not that familiar with the bible. I thought you would be christian like and educate me on what you know of the subject, but you did no such thing, nothing remotely close. You did not help my understanding. I always thought God would like his people to educate others about him. You go ahead and gape your mouth open thinking that I was wrong for even posting something like this. What are you going to say Rose, what was so breathtaking about this question? Are you going to tell me now that God would not want me asking if I did not understand something. Give me a break Rose.

The answer is, Rose doesn't know her scriptures as well as she thinks she does - if your source had been the Bible, she would have agreed - anything else, she would have disagreed.

I was taught that committing one sin or the other ,its sinning all the same.Jesus died on the cross to save us from all sin .So if you committ one, its jsut as bad as doing another sin.In that, I do feel that if one person committed a sin no matter how slight or big Jesus was there for it and paid the price.
This would be my oppion.

Lying isn't a crime punishable by law. Murder is.

In God's eyes there is no greater sin than the other, as far as the ten commandments, they are all equally bad.

I don't think that "thou shalt not gossip" is a commandment is it?
If it is, a lot of people on this forum are going to Hell.

Not if they have Jesus for thier savior, mankind is weak and will fall ,God knows this , Jesus is our savior and someones belief in HIm will save them.A murderer can be forgiven as much as a person who will covent thy neighbors goods.The people who sin and deny Jesus will be the ones who will be in h-e-l-l (i dont even like saying that word, its like a curse word to me)

I think Denying GOD is the worse sin, or speaking against the holy ghost.

Of course lying is a crime punishable by law. Slander, Libel, Fraudulant Advertising, Plagerism, Perjury are all crimes and punishable by the law.

It is not a good reference, I read it in a book called "three" I do not even know if the author is christian. One of his characters said it in the book, so therefore I was wondering if it was true.....
