What is your definition of God?

I believe that all things are connected with the energy they contain, whether alive or inanimate (all things are made of atoms which are constantly moving, so even rocks and such do have energy). I think this flow of energy through us all is "god". I think "god" in the sense, is merely a manifistation of man, to name what cannot be comprehended. I feel that this energy and this love (or hatred however you look at it) is so great and so mighty that no mere human could ever hope to understand it, so in the hopes of having something to identify with, man created "god". This is also why witches *primarily wiccans* are able to subdivide this god and also have a godess. It's all about relation, and how the mind is most able to connect with the universe. So I think that all gods/godesses of all religions are one and the same.

I agree with Newfie, It will be very interesting to discuss different views of religion. IF it can be done without the name calling and bashing this site has become known for.

An example would be I have always wanted to chat with a person of Jewish faith, because they do not beleive Jesus was the savior, it is my understanding they beleive the savior has not come yet. I have always wondered why they think this and would like to learn more. So that I can understand different views.

I would also welcome a discussion from a buddhist (spelling). And yes even discuss the muslum faith as well, I do not beleive that all muslums are bad and I dont think they approve of the terrorists either. There are so many views that can be discussed in an adult manner if only some will allow it to happen.

ok I studdied lots of religions before I finally decided on practicing witchcraft...

buhddism~buddhists don't have a God. In fact, it is quite possible to be Buddhist and Christian (although Christians don't allow it heh), most buddhists don't have a god though, because when they reach nirvana, they don't need one. Buddhism is more a way of life....they meditate in hopes of finally reaching nirvana, which is the highest point of enlightenment. At this point they are mentally perfect, have no concept of self anymore, and are connected with universal love. They believe in reincarnation, because they think the soul learns a different lesson each life time, and only after the final lesson can a soul reach nirvana.

judaism~ now i don't know a whole lot about this, but I will share what I do know. There are different types of judaism, and one particular sect, the messianic jews, do believe that yeshua was the expected savior. http://www.religioustolerance.org/mess_jud.htm is a good site with more info about them.

Now the jews who don't believe that yeshua is the messiah...theyre concept of messiah and moshiach is very very very different. "Messiah" is a christian thing. Go here http://www.jewfaq.org/moshiach.htm to read more on that, its too much for me to type out here. that site is wonderful about clarifying the differences between judiasm and other religions.

jainism~ now this religion i have always found fascinating. It's one of those small asian religions that not a whole lot of people practice. They believe that every living breathing thing has a soul, even down to the tiniest insect, so they must do everything they can to not harm that soul, for it may be the reincarnated spirit of someone. So they take EXTREME measures not to harm living things. The won't kill anything that comes in their house, like roaches or mice or spiders or anything. And they where a mask (like a surgical one) to prevent them from inhaling and killing any tiny life forms they may not see. They meticulously watch where they walk all the time. Most jainists, because of the nature of their beliefs, are businessmen. just thought i would share haha

any other questions or religions? i'll try taklink islam when i have more time...

Great post GW. Thanks for the links so we can go read for ourselves, that is probably best for us to do, that way no one can say any of us are pushing one type of religion over another.

The God is born of the Goddess, recreates himself, grows old, dies and is born again. Wiccans do not have a God and are able to subdivide this God and also have a Goddess, that is an incorrect interpretation of the most basic Wiccan beliefs.

I would be curious to know what disipline you follow GW. I have never heard of any Wiccan sect that teaches that the Goddess and the Horned God are equal to the one God that others worship, and are one and the same. In fact, the opposite is true.

Hindus believe in 3500 different Gods and Goddesses, and many other religions past and present have/had multiple Gods/Goddesses. I don't imagine that any of the millions of followers of these religions would believe that their Gods /Goddesses were one and the same with the Christian God. Don't imagine the christians would be crazy about it either. I know most Muslims would downright revolt.

The first very basic rule of religion, 'OOooo, our God is soooo much better than your God!!!!' Roll Eyes

IF you want to chat with a Jewish person, chat with Carla. She is Jewish and I am sure she won't mind spouting her opinion to you! *snicker*

see, i am not wiccan, and am so sorry i got it wrong, it is just what i have been told/read...again so sorry, hope i didn't offend...

as for what discipline i follow, i follow my own, my heart, which is why i said "I" believe. i think they are all one and the same, because we all derive from the same energy, the same life force, like it or not. we just have different ways of interpreting things is all. while other religions may not like it, i firmly believe they are all the same....

John 10:9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[1] He will come in and go out, and find pasture.

Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

1 Corinthians 1:18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."[3]
20Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.
26Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things -- and the things that are not -- to nullify the things that are, 29so that no one may boast before him. 30It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord."[4]
