The day after Memorial Day Weekend is a beautiful day to visit the cemetary. It is so quiet and peaceful. A very beautiful place to be, with hundreds of flower arrangements placed ever so carefully at the graves of loved ones.

What do the flowers we place so tenderly with our loved ones symbolize? That we love and miss those who have passed on? ( I like to say progressed on)

Emotions/our feelings of love for our loved ones seem to swell at this beautiful time of year, spring time. I know that mine do.

Why does God make we humans capable of such feelings of love and devotion towards our families? Simple. It is because God loves us and we WILL see, and recognize one another, in the familiar ( family ) way we we do here on earth. angel

This is a great post Rose and sorry to interrupt, but I do have a question for anyone who can answer it.
Why do people have parties and bbq's and such on memorial day?
It doesn't make sense to me.
It's not a party type of holiday in my book. Frown

Jaylo,

as a veteran I will try and answer your question. Why do folks celebrate by having a picnic or BBQ? Well they are celebrating Freedom and in the process remembering all those men and women who gave thier lives so that we may enjoy that freedom.

The only dumb question is the one that goes UNASKED!!!!

Okay, but it just doesn't seem right to me. I know we are all different, but I was brought up to remember, yes, but not to party on this particular holiday. Maybe just my upbringing, but "memorial day sales"? That kinda just irks me. Pet peeve? I don't know. Anywho, thanks for answering me.
P.S. Again, this is just me, but I celebrate freedom on July 4. Wink

I agree about the sales thing. But part of the celebrating is the rememberence of our men and women who gave their life for this country. We celebrate that due to their ultimate sacrifice we are still free.

by party do you mean an excuse to get drunk and act stupid? I agree that is not what the day is for. It is for rememberance. We gather and remember our people and we sit down to a meal together, folks cook out due to the time of year. Thus it has become a cookout.

I do not understand why people have to set flowers at graves, yes sure if the person liked flowers I would set them there ( I did with my Mothers grave on Mothers Day ) She loved flowers. I made a beautiful arrangement for her. But for Fathers day I wouldn't put flowers on my Father's grave because he didn't like flowers, I'm going to put something he enjoyed there.

I always place Flowers on my Mothers Grave. I went as far as to buy my aunt a tomb stone since her kids never did .I am not bragging I just thought that my aunt needed a tomb stone it has been 5 years without one on her grave . but what was really funny when I order the stone my aunts kids said this " she roll over in her grave if you put a certain name on her stone " and I said I was only putting the name that was on her Grave marker.. OH well I hope if my aunt can see the stone will be pleased

I would like to know why Men don't do these things (putting flowers on graves ) reason I ask I have 2 brothers and every year goes by and my flower is the only flower on my moms grave unless it is a Blue moon I will see a flower from a 1 brother . I can understand why my youngest brother does not do the grave thing because my aunt adopted him after my moms death and he was too young to remember our mom .but when it comes to my eldest brother I see no excuses ! before I was married I was on a fix income but when holidays came around I bought my mom flowers.... it is sad that Death makes people forget

That is so good that you took the innitiative Linda and took care of your Aunt's marker. Smile And nice that you always remember your mother. I wish I could go do the same for my mother and father, but they are too far away, and now my brother is gone too.

Rose I meant that I did not know that my aunt put the tomb stone on my moms grave until I was an adult . so that is why I state it was not really example I believe it came more from love and respect for the person
