Everyone in horses knows that you can lame a horse quicker than anything by putting shoes on yourself. I agree with this. But I also know that "other" farriers who are "schooled" have a monoply with the race tracks and purposley lame horses for a crack at the pot. Although it will never be proven. I want to know everything about the horse I'm on at that speed. I've been doing my thing for a long time before this BS forum. The only time I call in a farrier is for "correctional" shoes, such as a club foot or serious founder. To each his own. OOOhhhh and before you flip the sh*t lips again... I do my OWN horses not the boarders. Make note.
Have you completed a farrier school? I've been doing this long enough to know what is right and proven. I trust what I do. And I do my best.I was looking at a really nice one in Georgia, but I couldn't leave Chris for 6 weeks.
No one who is anybody would let a farrier work on their horse without the farrier being certified. You certainly wouldn't do it yourself. Well, I do.

Did you go to school to be a "breeder"? Did you go to school to learn how to cook? Hummmmmm ..... what about mowing the grass? No, wait, how about my 3500 cummins turbo with a gooseneck 4 horse, no school there either although I'd never lend it out to anyone. So, zip your lip. And get out and do something for yourself for once. GET AN EDUCATION.

Melissa.

the race horses can vary because there are stipulations on shoes. Queens plates, toe grabs, super queen it depends on the horse and how hard they hit or the conformation of the foot. My Sport Arabs have the studded borium because we travel roads at speeds and different non-man and man made surfaces. And my saddlebred get's lifts... so that would be a call in farrier.

I'm sure in my older age I will do all call in's but for now and I'm able I will keep it up.
